“CASCADE GATES” 2006 - 2007
In 1970 the spring water that had originally supplied the Tank and the well room spout at North Malvern Clock Tower was piped ‘to waste’ into the road drain. But in 2007 the direct spring water supply to the spout was reconnected and the new forged iron ‘Cascade Gates’, that Rose Garrard had designed in 2006, were made in collaboration with the blacksmith Andrew Findlay at Eastnor and installed at the well room entrance. Rose had based the gate design on the curved forms of the hills and of flowing water, plus the ivy leaves that once covered the original Victorian short clock tower.
The local Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty office in partnership with the Malvern Spa Association, the Town Council and the Malvern Hills Conservators had restored the building, the clock, the well room, the grounds and the intermittent spring water to the spout, with the help of a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
